Field recording -- Drift

I captured “abstract train” at the tail end of my four hour drift; my hand was a foot away from the train as it roared past me behind a warehouse at seventh and Florida. This clip was extracted from a four minute take at 5:00 p.m. Thursday March 11th. After listening to this clip the past week I thought about how this sound could also be the sound of metal or heavy aluminum being wrapped around itself, possibly at a recycling center.

I named this clip “shop”; it was recorded at W. Pierce St. and Cesar Chavez at a different auto body shop at 3:55 p.m. Thursday March 11th. There is a machine making a clapping sound in the background, a man speaking in the middle ground and his voice transitions to the foreground. At times his voice is drowned out by the dominant sound of a grinder, grinding a metal car part in the foreground. My mike placement for this recording was a mike in each hand placed between two separate garage doors.

I named this clip “Sparks”; it was recorded outside of an open garage door at an auto body shop in Milwaukee at Cesar Chavez and National Ave at 3:30 p.m. Thursday March 11th. There is a radio playing in the background and the dominant sound is the sparks being made by a power tool in the foreground.
